And guess what... America is honoring the birthday of Martin Luther King, the man who has relentlessly fought for the end of racial segregation, actively contributed to passing the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act. Nobel Prize for Peace in 1964, he was assassinated 4 years later.
And guess what... America has outdone itself last year. George Floyd dying in Police custody generated the Black Lives Matter movement in the whole country. These unprecedented marches were followed by numerous others against police brutality, immigration policies, Climate Change, for Women, Gun Control, etc. in a time of pandemic, physical, mental and economic distress.
And guess what...to start 2021 on a cheerful note, the unprecedented attack by Trumpists on the Capitol, showing the world the President's delusional refusal to accept the election results strikes the world. "A moment of great dishonor and shame" said Barack Obama.
What has happened to what is supposed to be the greatest Democracy on the planet, to the Leader of the free world? Has a majority of Americans suffered from Alzheimer's the past 4 years? King's daughter Bernice tweeted today "When you tweet about my father's birthday, remember that he was resolute about eradicating racism, poverty & militarism. Encourage & enact policies that reflect your birthday sentiments."
And guess what... YES, I hope they can...

The title of MLK's last book is "Where Do We Go From Here? Chaos or community?"
I find it a powerful question for the new Biden administration before the Inauguration of Joe Biden as the 46th President of the United States of America.
Let us all remind ourselves every day that Democracy is never a given, that we have to fight for it, remain awake and alert, standing for our values and beliefs.
And guess what... I had a dream... that one day Donald will only remind us of our favorite cartoon character.

Christmas from the Tuscan hills

I have the immense luck and privilege of being able to take refuge in the beauty of the Tuscan hills. From these harmonious and rejuvenating landscapes, a letter written by Fra Angelico to a friend in 1453 inspired me...

Choose to be grateful

It is not that I am really a big fan of traditional holidays and celebrations... but Thanksgiving is my favorite. Not because of the turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and the cranberry celebrating the first harvest of the Mayflower pilgrims...
but for taking a pause to reflect back on the past year and for what we can be grateful for.
